Private Landlords & Drugs Added On - 2015/06/24
Private landlords have been advised to check their properties are not being used for large-scale cultivation of cannabis.

The warning comes from various Police forces around the UK after cannabis plants worth around 150,000 were recently discovered at one house in Scotland.

It was the second significant discovery in the Clackmannanshire area in recent weeks and police officers believe both are linked to organised crime gangs.

Detective Inspector Ian Motion said private landlords need to be aware that some tenants may be renting a property as a base for criminal activity.

He urged them to carry out regular spot checks in order to help police and protect their properties.

"Previous discoveries have shown that substantial damage is caused to the properties and in some cases walls have been removed," said DI Motion.

Humberside Police recently told the press that private landlords who want to avoid letting property to criminals should make sure they carry out thorough reference checks.
